The Tangerine Pattern Event '06
hosted by RCACF

(Radio Controlled Association of Central Florida)

December 9-10, 2006

"BVM Props" was part of the show.

We displayed and flew 3 ARF all-composite painted in-the-mold pattern models.

The brand new Shinden designed by Bryan Hebert debuted at the Tangerine meet and was flown by Dustin Buescher to first place in the Sportsman class (Dustin's first pattern contest). The sleek looks and many new features of the Shinden appealed to many of the 35 competitors.

Close-ups of the Shinden

This Shinden is powered by a Neu 15152Y electric motor
with a 6.7:1 gearbox and a Castle Creations controller.

Factory installed landing gear formers

A very clever, factory installed cowl release mechanism is finger actuated from both sides for fast, easy access.

Unique for an all composite pattern model are the aerodynamic fairings for the wing and stab that are part of the Shinden's fuselage

Stab incidence adjuster is factory installed.

Two nylon pins retain the front of the canopy hatch while a BVM "Hatch Latch" secures the assembly allowing very quick access.

Center hinging of all of the control surfaces is accomplished "in-the-mold" offering no built-in differential.

David Shulman flew an Astral XX to 4th place in the F3A division. He really thinks it is a great pattern model and that with another 70 gallons of fuel burn he can catch up to Jason (his brother).
The Astral XX was powered with an O.S. 1.60 2-stroke using a Perry Pump, 18.1x10 APC prop burning 15% Cool Power. The paint work on the Astral XX is very intricate and attractive.

Jerry Caudle of "Super Man Jet Week" fame traveled from Metropolis, Illinois to get his OTOP with electric power tested. It worked flawlessly, especially demonstrating that the OTOP is capable of a knife edge loop. This painted in-the-mold, all composite offering from BVM Props represents a lot of pattern value for your money.

Close-ups of the OTOP
Jerry's OTOP is powered by a Neu 15152Y electric motor
with a 6.7:1 gearbox swinging a 19x13 APC prop.

Rudder servo, receiver and battery are simple to install. The wings are retained with nylon finger nuts.

Overall view of the OTOP. It is a great entry level pattern model and at a great price for piston or electric power.

Fiberglass molded wheel pants, landing gear legs and cowl are nice fitting and aerodynamic.

Plug in stabs, Jerry opted to install smaller elevator servos at the rear of the fuselage

On display in the pit area are the Astral XX and 3 OTOPS in various paint schemes.

An interesting side bar - The electric powered pattern models flown by Dustin and Jerry use 10S1P 5,000mah batteries in the Saddle Cell configuration, the same as employed in BVM Jets Electric VioFan power systems.

Thanks Steve!

The club and the pattern flyers applauded Steve Homenda (left) for his efforts to organize and C.D. the Tangerine pattern event. Here Steve congratulates Mike Constantine for his 1st place finish in the Advanced category.
